Simplifying user-location documentation

GoogleInformation architecture

A documentation redesign for Oolong, a Google team providing user-location services with complex API options, privacy requirements, and client needs.

The challenge

New clients frequently asked for support, even when the answers were already somewhere on the website. Information was hidden and scattered, while many API option combinations made the right implementation path hard to identify.

What I did

Organized topics by audience

I separated content for new clients, experienced users, and the internal team.

Made common tasks easier to find

I rewrote headings as actionable titles and consolidated common use cases so new clients could reach the information they needed.

Clarified API choices

I brought the API option combinations together in one table to help clients identify the right path.

The outcome

New clients found the site easier to navigate, and the team reported fewer support requests after the redesign.

“With the new look and structure, the website is more user friendly and provides a better user experience for new clients who start using Oolong services for the first time.”
